Sometimes life seems like fiction – but I’m thrilled to announce that I have been honored by an invitation to act as the Toastmaster for the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association‘s 58th annual Nebula Awards in Anaheim, California on May 14, 2023. This year’s awards mark the first time since 2019 that an in-person event will be held – but owing to the many adventures during the pandemic, this year’s event will return to hybrid with a global livestreaming component, a nod to past conferences while applying many new lessons.

Of course, an awards show honoring writers is certainly going to bring the story. The team is putting a lot of work into a full theme, story, and script for the show. I’ve submitted an opening monologue, and worked with head writers Tilly and Susan Bridges on some light editing to get it fit into the show’s timing. From there, they’re building out on the extensive lore built out over the past few years as the Airship Nebula roamed outer space during the pandemic – this year’s event will mark our first “planetary excursion” in years. I’m honored to be your Commander for the evening’s away mission.

Nebulas conference attendees can either purchase banquet tickets as an add-on, or come to the awards ceremony on a space-available basis; streaming of the awards ceremony will be available to the public.
